we see the sector growing rapidly day by day, and new providers join who are providing all sorts of supports. We absolutely love and encourage this – as our sector need innovation and new thinking to continue to evolve.

However we are also seeing that many new providers, and particularly new independent Support Workers are getting the support and guidance we have all needed when we first started in the work. They don’t have a mentor to talk through challenges with, they don’t have someone to troubleshoot with them how to best support participants and as such, have to learn on the go and by themselves. Or worse, have to rely on social media for advice, which is so concerning to us with all the misinformation in circulation.

We believe that people accessing services, should expect the highest standard at all times – and this includes support workers who professionally develop, reflect on their practice and continue to learn new skills.
